Back to UK and Scotland trip

10–12 Nov / Windsor - Manchester - Blackpool

The road north became less polished

Windsor was the classic old stone bit. Manchester and Blackpool were the practical middle: meals, snack stops, errands, lots of driving.

  • The in-between bit
  • Castle + city stops

The in-between days, where the pace slowly changes before Scotland. People tend to underestimate days like these.

Windsor was still fancy. After that it got more practical and less postcard.

These are the days that connect everything.

Not every part of a trip is a highlight. This is the shift from easy London to cold, moody Scotland, and middle days like these are easy to under-plan.

Castle walls, warm food, sweets, a supermarket night, and one seaside stop before pushing further north.

Windsor for the old stuff, Manchester for food and errands, Blackpool for the sea before Scotland.

Windsor

Castle walls. Proper old England.

Windsor was the neat, classic bit of the drive north: stone walls, trimmed grass, very British history kept shiny for visitors. More formal than London.

Not a big moment, more a tidy stop between London and the messier road-trip middle.

Tidy and old-fashioned. The last neat stop before the road got scruffier.

Manchester

Manchester, for me, is the food.

A table of pasta and pizza, a macaron display, and the little errands that always sneak into a long trip.

Not a postcard stop, and that’s fine. Middle of the trip, less about landmarks, more about staying warm, fed and moving.

No famous view. Just pasta, sweets and a supermarket run.

Blackpool

A quick seaside stop before Scotland.

Blackpool was a short stop before Scotland. Not the prettiest bit, but we got some sea before the scenery went colder, wider and moodier.

Bit of a change before it was all Scotland.

Personal take: this part is more road diary than highlights. It gets you from fancy London/Windsor to moody Scotland, so don’t expect too much.
