Edinburgh closed with stone and winter lights

After the Highlands, back to the city: castle gates, palace lawns, old rooms, evening lights, then one last run south through London.

After the big, cold Highlands, Edinburgh was walls, gates, courtyards and rooms full of history.

Coming straight from the Highlands, Edinburgh felt sharper. No more wide, wild views. Just buildings, gates, courtyards and old rooms.

Then back south to finish with lights, crowds and one more round of busy London.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh looks best in stone and grey light.

Even simple photos look very Edinburgh: old buildings, tall narrow lines, palace lawns, and a grey sky that makes everything look older.

After the Highlands the city felt sharper. No more wide, wild views. Just walls, gates, courtyards and rooms full of history.

The small stuff was the best: courtyards, gates, church fronts, lots of grey stone.

Evening

At night, old rooms and winter lights made it cosier.

The end of the trip got less serious. The buildings were still grand, but the lights and warm rooms were nice after the cold Scotland road days.

Lights on, and Edinburgh went from stern to festive.

Bicester and London

Then it got bright and busy again.

Back in England, it felt like a release after heavy, moody Scotland. Not much London here, just lights, crowds and one last bit of bright city.

It ended brighter than it started: more lights, more people, a proper city ending.

Personal take: Edinburgh gave the ending its old stone, and going back through London made it lively again.
