Food Diary / Osaka / 22 Jan 2025

Ryunosu gave Osaka a very solid first lunch.

After flying from Sapporo to Osaka, this late lunch near Shinsaibashi landed exactly right: genuinely good beef, a generous bowl of udon, and the kind of satisfying first meal that helps a new city start well.

Warm, generous, and uncomplicated in the best way. The beef was the clear highlight, but the udon made the stop feel complete.

The beef made the first impression immediately. This was the plate that made the Osaka chapter open on a strong note.

Some city meals matter less because they are famous and more because they arrive at the exact right time. Ryunosu was that kind of lunch.

The meat was genuinely good and delicious, with the kind of marbling that makes the lunch feel instantly worth it. It was the strongest part of the table and the thing I remembered first afterward.

The udon came in a large portion and had a nice taste, so it worked well after the flight. Together, the beef and udon made the meal feel generous without trying too hard.

Quick Take

Good beef first, comfort second

Ryunosu worked because it did two things well at the same time: it gave us a proper beef highlight, and it also gave us a bowl of udon that felt right after a flight.

The lunch did not need to be complicated. It just needed to make Osaka feel good from the start, and it did. The beef delivered the strongest flavor moment, while the udon made the whole stop feel more complete and practical for a travel day.

Trip context: exactly the kind of late lunch that makes the first afternoon in a new city feel settled quickly.
